The Perfect Nude Nails on a Budget – Private Viewing by Wet n' Wild

Private Viewing by Wet n' Wild in Direct Sunlight

I waited until summer was over to try this polish I've had for months and now. What the heck was I waiting on? Private Viewing by Wet n' Wild Megalast Nail Polish is the perfect pinky nude for any skin tone.

COATS
As you can see in the picture above, it shows up rather pink in direct sunlight, especially after a top coat has been added for extra shine. By itself, it has a semi-gloss finish. Below, you will see the polish in indirect sunlight.

THE BRUSH
The thick flat top brush makes painting wider nail beds and large nail beds  ridiculously easy. All you truly need are 3 swipes to go. I recommend doing two light coats for a truly natural look where you nail is barely peeking through. For a more opaque look, two thick coats or three light coats should work just fine.

PRICE
Private Viewing by Wet n' Wild retails for about $1.99 at Walgreens when it is not one sale. I got mine for 1:35 if my memory serves me correctly. Check your local pharmacy or beauty supply store for the brand.

Nailing the Black and White Fashion Trend (Nail Art Edition)

March Jacobs – Spring 2013

Black and white was possibly the most consistent trend on the Spring/Summer 2013 New York Fashion week runways and Marc Jacobs did it well in a new and fresh way. The chic and effortless look already has women experimenting in new ways of pairing black and white in their wardrobe. Today, be inspired in a different way. Watch the tutorials below to see how you can introduce the shade on shade trend in your nail art designs.

These nail art design tutorials are for everyone. Whether your personal style is chic, girly or edgy, there is a black and white nail art design here for you. There are also easy and more advanced looks so you can find something for your level of competence no matter how basic or complex your skill level.

Most of the designs seen on the runways featured very block-type styling with polka dots and stripes. Here is another way in which you can experiment in block styling on your nails with a puzzle style design.

Now, if you are more into the feminine look, there is something for you too. The video below features an easy but more time-consuming swirly design created using a simple water-marbelling technique.  The nail art design tutorial that follows features a free-hand drawn design.

Now, if you're into the more edgy look, this nail art video tutorial is the one for you. If you don't have studs, go for something else of try silver dots. Just get creative.

I hope that one of these nail art looks inspired you to create something fun and beautiful this weekend. Which one of the nail art looks was your favourite?

I knew I wanted a water marble manicure, but I was having trouble deciding what colors to use. Then I looked down at the t-shirt I was wearing, and my problem was solved.

Metallic Animal Pink Nail Art

Don't you just love to stumble on an unusual yet beautiful colour combination?  I couldn't decide between a girly pink and edgy metallic silver look. After scanning a few pics for inspiration, I stumbled on a similar accent nail and paired it with this foil-like pink. Check out the pictures and colours below.

SWATCH | Easy Red & Glitter Nail Art

I couldn't help but dive into the nail polish trend for the season. Rich, deep reds are all over the place and glitter is never out of style. Wouldn't you agree? (hehe) Well, I went ahead and did a deep read manicure using Disco Fever by LA Girl's Disco Brights collection.

The accent nail was created by painting two coats of Peal Silver by KleanColour Nail Laquer and Silver Jewel by Jordana was layered on top until the desired result was achieved.

The nail polish shows up a lot darker indoors and offers a rich burgundy tone. Look below for indoor pictures of the nail polishes used.

I also did this look on my toes. I don't usually do accent toenails but I decided to add a little glitz to the second toe.

Glam-More by China Glaze is my favourite glitter crackle form their collection that debuted this summer 2012. It  will transition nicely into the winter. Don't you think?

SWATCH & REVIEW | China Glaze CrackleGlaze Nail Polish

Gleam Me Up CrackleGlitter  (Bright Sky Blue) by China Gaze on Pink Nail Polish

How to Use China Glaze CrackleGlitter
  • The crackle glitters look best on either very light (almost white) or very dark (almost black) polishes. These really allow the glitter to POP.
  • Put topcoat on before applying crackle as this allows it to crack more easily, especially if you aren't using a drying machine in a salon.
  • Add a topcoat on top of the glitter to help the glitter to pop even more.

China Glaze Crackle Glitters

The base of the glitter is clear. That allows the colour underneath to pop. I'm not sure that this is the best idea though since I would think that the glitter should be the focus. I would prefer a coloured base to the glitter polish so that the glitter has a base on which to build and therefore will stand out more.

It took me a while to get used to this look. Many people think it's cute. Thing is, I'm not really a "cute" kinda girl. But, if you are, this is perfect for you. I will only be using these crackles on dark colours. Subscribe to www.keepitkinky.net for more swatches in the future on dark nails..

Fall Night Inspired Nail Look

Fall night-inspired nail art design in sunlight

Summer is over (sob sob). But, the beautiful colours of fall are in and the air is getting cooler and more comfortable with each day (in most places anyway). I decided to try a nail art look inspired by a fun fall night. I will wear this all week even though it feels very night-out-ish and festive.

Fall night-inspired nail art design in shade

Tip!
To get away with glitter in the non-formal office, try using two colours that are close in family. Use  a warm colour with another warm or cool with cool. Avoid brights and stick to saturated and subdued colours.

Jade-d by China Glaze and Teal Marble by Kleancolor were use to create this design

After using China Glaze® Crackle Glaze in Jade-d, the crackle wasn't very obvious.  I will be trying it over a very dark and very light colour under the crackle in the future to see how it responds, but, still enjoyed the subtle effect created by the Jade-coloured crackle. I can't wait to try the other crackle glitters from China Glaze® (click here to learn more about them).

Nail Art Challenge Roundup & Multi-Pattern Nails

All the nail art looks that I have done in the last 6 weeks.
I'm loving nail art more and more everyday. It's such an easy way to express yourself. Above are all the looks I've done while on the challenge and below is my latest design. It's obvious that I've done them all myself, right? LOL.

Multi-Pattern Nail Art Look

This is the final look in my nail art challenge... which got smudged before I took the pic, but, maybe I'll do another one! In any case, stay tuned for more nail art looks! Watch the video below to see how to keep your nails smudge-free.

Multi-pattern Nail Art Look

How to Avoid Smudging Your Nails
  1. Make sure that you are fully dressed before starting your nails.
  2. Ensure that you have everything you need to do your nails with you when you begin.
  3. Use a fast-drying top-coat.
  4. Do your nails while watching a television program or YouTube videos to give yourself time. You probably watch TV anyway so why not make the most of that time by multitasking.
  5. Buy a nail dryer. They make life a lot easier.
  6. I sometimes dip my fingers into very cold water for 10 seconds and hey, it seems to work.

Neon Orange Nail Polish by KleanColor covered with Gold  Color Club Fractured Nail Polish

I'm way off the timeline, but here is my summer-inspired look for the KiK Nail Art Challenge. Summer is all about two things – sun and warmth. Those two things were my inspiration for this look. This summer's biggest nail trend is neon, so, I decided to go with a blinding neon orange covered with gold crackle to give it some warmth. Warm up your nails this summer by trying this simple look.

SWATCH & REVIEW | Beach Blue by KleanColor®

Can't make it to the beach. Take it to you with a little Beach Blue by KleanColor® Nail Lacquer. I am loving this blue polish from KleanColor®. Their polishes are very reasonably priced but the coverage isn't always consistent. Here was my experience with this colour over the last week.

Beach Blue by KleanColor®
  1. Two coats give excellent, smooth coverage.
  2. A top coat must be used as it does have the potential to rub off - but not very easily.
  3. It lasts about a week.
  4. It can be a little thick but dries nice and opaque. You just need to have time to dedicate to drying. I didn't give it enough time before doing my nails before bed and it resulted in a few scuff marks.
  5. Excellent value for a little bit of money.

SWATCH | Mango Taffy by Brucci Nail Hardeners

Most of the polishes I have are either neon-ish or vampy but I've been feeling a little girly and delicate lately so I ran out to get a new peach or coral. I came home with... Mango Taffy by Brucci Nail Hardeners.

This colour went on very smooth and I'm considering getting a few more Brucci nail polishes. The last few I got have been very nice and they don't really get clumpy over time. Two coats are all you need to get this type of opacity.

See pics off the nail polish in direct sunlight and in the shade below.

SWATCH: Neon Pink by KleanColor

Neon Pink by KleanColor and White by Jordana and Black Velvet by L.A. Girl

I really, REALLY, love Neon Pink by KleanColor. I think this one will be making a lot of appearances this summer. I'm loving black and white accent nails with neon nails too so hmmm... we'll see how often that pops up but I'll try to switch it up for you guys. I have only been wearing this for a day but I have a mini review already.

Unfortunately, the Neon Pink is a bit too think unlike the Neon Orange which was very thin and opaque. This is my one problem with KleanColor polishes. They aren't very consistent in consistency. This Neon Pink will very possibly take 2-3 coats to get a nice consistency. Actually, I used my topcoat to get that smooth look. But guys, the colour is POPPING. It's the perfect non-barbie Neon Pink which is just my style. OK. Stopping now. See the list of polishes used below.

Polishes Used:
Neon Pink by KleanColor
White by Jordana French (French Manicure)
Black Velvet by L.A. Girl
