Are you tired of detangling or just love the look of locked hair? Are you ready to put your hair on the loc-down? Well, it's time to start doing your research and this is the right place to begin your search.
There are several popular ways to start locking one's hair. Not all of them are for everyone but the following suggestions will definitely give you a few options and help you to decide which method could be right for you.
Comb Coils
This is recommended for people with shorter hair. The coils tend to wash out easily but your hair can be quickly re-twisted every couple of weeks. This is best done on people with tightly coiled hair.
Get your Hair Plaited
This is the easiest way to start locking your hair. Just never undo the plaits. You can wash your hair as often as you want to and the plaits are unlikely to become loose. Disadvantage – the definition of the plaits takes a very long time to go away and look like locs.
Twist your Natural Hair
This is the most popular method of starting locs.Your hair locs quickly but frequent washing is often limited because your hair may easily become undone, then requiring you to keep retwisting the twists that become loose. This however is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to begin locs.
Interlocking/Latch-hooking
This method allows you to have instantly loc'd or knotted hair. Your hair is knotted using an interlocking tool and it is very difficult for it to become undone. This is also considered the best method for people with looser/straighter hair textures but can be used by almost anyone.
Lock Extensions
If you want to look instantly, authentically locked, this is the style for you. It can be very pricey at the salon but is perfect for the woman who wants the instantly neat and locked look.
Braids Extensions
Get your hair braided and interlock the roots. Cut off the extensions when you have enough locked hair at the roots. The braids (when using kanekalon) can often look neat for up to 6 months before needing to be taken down. This is perfect for those who want to start their locks but have relaxed hair.
Sisterlocks
This system is usually performed by licensed hair professionals. Your hair is instantly locked using your own natural hair. The parts are very fine. Read more about Sisterlocks by clicking here.

This is right on time! I'm getting ready to start locs. Probably will use the coil method since my hair is pretty short. Just trying to find a good stylist to do them.
