The Post Binge Burn

Today, most Americans are throwing their regular diet through the Thanksgiving  window. A similar act usually happens at Christmas, on birthdays and other special occasions. Unfortunately, that day (or season), is often committed to spending time with friends and family and devouring every available sinful food and has an unfortunate side effect - weight gain. Here are some simple ways to burn the extra calories you have been taking in quickly using a few simple extra activities.

Do housework! I often refer to housework as manual labour. Vacuum the carpets. Mop the floor. Clean the windows. Reorganize the closet. Rearrange the house for all I care. Just make sure that you are as active as possible. Doing a little housework everyday or a spring/winter cleaning on the weekend is sure to burn a few extra calories. Bonus - the house will be spic and span when you're done.

Get to stepping. Park farthest from the office door. Take the stairs. Walk the dog. Do whatever it takes to get in a few extra steps for at least a week after your sinful food acts.

Ditch the leftovers. Let the kids have them. One day was enough to deviate from your diet. The additional days of unhealthy eating will be too much and make it harder to get back on your regular, healthier diet. You don't need to continuously be eating more calories than you need.

Do some gardening. If it's warm enough, do some gardening. All the bending and lifting is sure to give you a little work out. This happens to be the home activity that make me sweat the most and I love it.

When all else fails - just work out. Skip that added activities and take up 15 minutes of skipping everyday for the week. You won't just burn calories but get a total body-toning workout. If you already work out, extend your exercise routing by 15 minutes for a couple of weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving all! I heard the first reggae-style Christmas carol on the radio this morning so what the heck - Season's greetings too.
