Nicole and her 5 yr old daughter boast their natural hair |
Nicole's 5 year old daughter's hair is flourishing. Both mother and daughter share a similar hair type that shrinks up with lots of kinks and both of them are thoroughly enjoying life with natural hair. But with all the influence from me2dia, how does Nicole encourage her daughter to love her natural hair?
Nicole says:
- I encourage her to touch her hair and experience it for herself. I let
her rinse the shampoo out sometimes under the shower by herself. She love
to feel the water run down her strands.
- I sometimes let her choose the style she wants to wear. I want her to feel beautiful and confident so if she wants two pony puffs one day I give it to her and she feels fierce with her natural hair.
- I always praise her hair while styling it – telling her it is so beautiful and soft. I love her cute curlies.
- I encourage her to ask me questions about hair. I also ask her questions such as how does she feel about her hair and if she is feeling negative about it. I will encourage her and tell her she is unique and everyone loves her hair because its so different its her crown and she is a queen.
- I teach her how to maintain it by sleeping on a satin pillow case. We practice daily moisturizing to encourage her to care for and cherish her hair.
Other things you can do:
- Wear your hair natural for inspiration.
- Buy her dolls with curly hair.
- Always speak positively about her hair. Her hair isn't thick and difficult. It's thick and beautiful.
- Openly admire the beauty of other women's natural hair.
