My Recipe for Healthy, Long Hair

Well I’ve read that the hair on your head is supposed to grow ½ - 1 inch each month. Uhm… well… mine doesn’t. I don’t think so anyway. I’ve also heard that hair growth is inconsistent – Now that is something I believe. I think everybody is different. We have different skin color, height and hair. I doubt highly that everyone has the ability to grow waist-length or thigh-length hair but I DO believe that we can do things to help our hair reach it’s optimal length a little faster and a little healthier. How?

Protective styling! I’ve been dabbling in it for some time now and I truly believe the only reason I’m almost at arm pit length is because of protective styling. People on the Internet have been raving about the benefits of protective styling. It’s a simple concept. Keep your hair protected in a style that protects from shedding through combing and stop it from rubbing against your shoulders so that it isn’t weakened. Yeah – it’s that simple. Styles that are most protective typically involve combing your hair no more than once a week. Point is – the less combing and tearing that leads to shedding and losing length – the better. So now on to some basic popular protective styles…

1. Box Braids (both natural or with extensions)
2. Cornrows (make it fancy now)
3. Wash and Go’s (no combing so be prepared for tangling)
4. Twists
5. Cornrows and plaits combinations
6. Flat twists and plaits combinations

Styles will be popping up in our Hot Style section so stay tuned.

- Keep It Kinky!
