...a lot.
I've been criticized for blow-drying my hair. I've ebeen told I'm accepting the euro-centric norms and that I haven't accepted my natural hair texture. WHATEVER. For my critics' information - not all Caucasians have bone straight hair and even some of those that do still blow-dry and flatiron their hair. It's a styling option. The last time I plaited my hair in seven after washing and towel drying, it took TWO DAYS to dry. When I was relaxed it took a long time too. I blow-dry because it's fast. I also blow-dry my hair to dry it without tangles. The plaits tend to have tangles too even though I throroughly untangle with my denman. I think something is wrong with my plaiting method. LOL. Anyway, I mostly straighten my hair when I don't have the time to untangle my hair in order to style it everyday. Sometimes I just feel like having a different style. I love my hair... in many styles.
If you enjoy your hair curly and never straightened - good for you. If you want to wear it flat-ironed all the time - good for you (and be careful not to damage your hair). Do what works for you and I'll do what works for me. The main reason I stopped putting a permanent relaxer in my hair is that I believed the chemicals are harmful.
Unfortunately I'm not trying to make some kind of statement. I'm just doing me. I happen to like my natural texture more though and wish more people would explore the natural hair option. It can be quite difficult to transition but I definitely encourage everyone I know to try it. Anyway, until next time when I come through with new styles...
Keep it Kinky
Hey!!
ReplyDeletehow do you blow-dry your hair? I have a Denman (D3) brush as well with 4B hair & was looking to blow-dry it & have a friend trim off the damaged ends? Let a sister know, aight?! Looking forward to your response!
ReplyDeleteHey Anya. I'll do a post to show you how I do it in a day or too so you can check back soon.
ReplyDeletehey!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you're being criticized. I have blown dried my hair a total of 4 times since i did my bc in January, and one of my friends have the nerve to tell me that I'm not natural! Seriously, people just need to get a grip. It's not that serious. Anyway, continue to do you, because obviously it's been working well.
Btw, I <3 your blog!!!!
hahaha criticised - some folk need to get out more...
ReplyDeletehey girl,
ReplyDeletejust keep it moving when people want to criticize you for the way you handle your hair. as if being natural isn't good enough? now you have to prove something by not blow drying your hair???
puhlease..i always blow dry after washing my hair and wouldn't have it any other way.
Well back when I had natural hair I used a blow dryer, not all the time, but every now n then, when I needed my hair dried fast, even with locs, I use a blowdryer, so my locs wont get mildew, and I wont go to sleep with wet locs.
ReplyDeleteI cant see why anyone will criticize you for that..but just take it with a grain of salt...
If blowdrying regularly works for you I think that's great. My pick attachment on my blowdryer really ripped my ends up so I was forced to stop using it. Wish I could. QUEYST
