A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post including hair product suggestions. Today I will expand on considerations that should be made while selecting a hair oil.
Sunflower Oil does not penetrate the strands as well as Coconut Oil. |
The study, however, shows coconut oil coming out on top. "Among three oils (sunflower, coconut and mineral oil), coconut oil was the only oil found to reduce the protein loss remarkably for both undamaged and damaged hair when used as a pre-wash and post-wash grooming product". Now, don't just go buying any coconut oil you see.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is great for hot oil treatments. |
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is another hair oil gem. Olive Oil is great for hot oil treatments but some find the scent offensive for daily use and prefer the scent of olive oil. I'm not a fan of the scent either and it can be a little heavy for daily use.
Future posts will deal with other oils but I highly recommend Extra Virgin Coconut oil for protein retention and moisture and Extra Virgin Olive Oil for hot oil treatments. These are the only two oils I need.

I've been using apricot oil lately and really like the lightness of it and the way my locs soak it up.

It nourishes the scalp and moisturizes the hair. It's a great combination.
