The Oprah Magazine September 2012 Natural Hair Cover |
hairstyle as she reportedly does on weekends and on vacation. According to her website, that makes her feel "unencumbered." She even wanted to shape her hair a la Camille Cosby but was dissuaded from doing so. Interestingly, this is a makeover issue. I think it's a cute idea to show her in an entirely new look.
Though many are celebrating, there seems to be some controversy as outlined in this article. In summary, some people are suggesting that she must have a non-kinky-haired parent to have such loose curls. I don't know why this is considered controversial but I won't get into the heat-trained hair discussion in this post. Words thrown around include " I don't blame non-black people for loving it."

I don't believe that Oprah expressed a desire to be the worldwide natural hair Spokesperson for the natural haired women worldwide or even a desire to represent them through her hairstyle so why the stress? Talk about discouraging other celebrities from going natural? Some people are questioning whether she is wearing a braid-out. I am wondering why anyone cares so deeply.
She is showcasing a natural hairstyle. It's refreshing to see her embrace a natural style on her cover. Why couldn't we leave it at that. Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
She looks amazing! <333
ReplyDeleteI think she looks great! refreshing to see a change on her. Don't know why people must assume if you are black with a looser hair texture then your mixed, heat trained, or rocking a braid/twist out. Not every black woman was born with the kinkiest of hair, nor do you have to be mixed to have a loose curl pattern.
