FDA Warns Alchoholic Energy Drink Makers – I Warn Alchoholic Caffeine Drink Drinkers

Need a boost? Be careful what you reach for. It might not be safe.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued warning letters to four companies explaining that "the caffeine added to their malt alcoholic beverages is an “unsafe food additive” and said that further action, including seizure of their products, is possible under federal law."

Drink makers who have received warning letters include:

  1. Charge Beverages Corporation, makers of "Core High Gravity HG Green," "Core High Gravity HG Orange," and "Lemon Lime Core Spiked."
  2. New Century Brewing Company, LLC, makers of "Moonshot."
  3. Phusion Projects, LLC (doing business as Drink Four Brewing Company), makers of "Four Loko."
  4. United Brands, makers of "Joose" and "Max."
