Should You Comb or Finger Detangle your Type 4 Natural Hair?

I had always been a firm believer in combs for loose natural hair, but now I may be thinking a little differently. It's good hygene, right?. But, is it really? Washing is good hygene. Combing is just a part of styling that is usually used to prevent the tangling of natural hair. .

Traditional wide tooth comb used by many natural haired women

PROS TO COMBING NATURAL HAIR
  • It is the fastest way to detangle hair
  • Can part hair precisely for styles requiring parting precision
  • Prevents knotting and dreading of the hair
  • Can help to to stretch hair without heat

PROS TO NOT COMBING NATURAL HAIR
  • Hair grows much faster
  • Hair can still be detangled even though it will take a longer time than with a comb
  • Reduces breakage from the tearing that combs can cause
  • You will be able to feel your strands almost individually, making it very easy to asses damage and remove single strand knots (Search and destroy method) etc.
