The Banding Method of Stretching Tight Curls

Banding can be done on wet or dry hair (See the videos below). Now, banding stretches your hair but don't expect your curls to look like you just did a blow-out. It is best for those who want to get slightly longer curls. For the 4b/4c girls like me who have a small Afro, it can be a great way to prevent that smashed hair effect you get after sleeping on your Afro.

Pros
  • You shouldn't need to detangle in the morning. You can just finger detangle and go.
  • Your hair is stretched out and shows more of its length.
  • It is a great heat-free stretching method hence reducing the damaging effects of heat on your hair.

Cons
  • It can take a while to put in and take down if you have short hair because you'll have to do short sections.
  • It doesn't work very well for everyone and creates a lot of tension on the edges if done too tightly and too often. You probably don't want to do this every single night.
  • Constantly putting an elastic tie in your hair can cause a little hair to get torn out while taking out the bands.
