Unravelling Twists

Hi J,

The twists you were commenting on were done with artificial kanekalon hair. Those are dipped in hot water to keep the set but I would never recommend that for natural hair.

Two things often contribute to unraveling twists.
  1. Blunt ends. Often caused my cutting with scissors or sheers.
  2. Too-straight hair. This may be your hair texture or be caused by relaxing or blow-drying.
The solutions?
  1. Some people curly their ends with a perm rod in order to set it the twist/keep it in place.
  2. Some plait the ends of their hair as plats tend to last longer.
  3. Others may go and have a professional cut with a razor that may reduce the number of blunt edges.
  4. Put gel on the ends to help them stay in place. Keep in mine that some gels flake over time.
  5. If your hair is naturally curly  but you blow-dried to twist, bunch the ends (only) of your hair together and spritz them with water to let the ends curl up and seal the twist.
I hope this helps J. Good luck with your twists.
