Re-blogged from bookblogette.blogspot.com.
The brainchild of rising Jamaican artist/entrepreneur, Scheed Cole,
BattleART was created to complement his mainly art based company, Props and More and Scheed International. BattleART
representative, Keisha Cole, spoke with
me to discuss this new project geared at finding new art talent in
realistic
painting and sculpting – a genre that Keisha Delisser-Cole believes is
becoming dormant in
Jamaican art. With Scheed and Keisha being my old college mates, I was
more than happy to indulge in this wonderful interview to share one of
their latest projects.

Our companies thrive on
painting and sculpting but the idea for BattleART has evolved. No longer is it
about just the visual arts, but the arts, graphic designers, painters,
musicians, dancers, industrial designers, singers, interior designers etc. The
BattleART is now a competition for all creatives, to demonstrate their talent
and mastery within the limits of time, and to a live audience. Hence the idea
was birth and I was asked to assist in bringing it to life through social
media.

So what
was the inspiration for something like this?
Keisha Delisser – Cole
This is the first of
it's kind in Jamaica, the only other real time competition like this for the
Arts is found in the United states and so the competitions are only in clubs.
Our vision is to make this competition grow with dedicated followers who are
eagerly awaiting the next Battle. BattleART
is the ultimate challenge, making art an invigorating sport and where
artistic and creative skills we must battle to be the best. We will not be
bound by having large competitions in enclosed areas, but soon we will be at a
roadside, plaza, Bus Park or a public park near you. There are no limits on age
or abilities. As long as competitors are willing to compete they can.

Who can and how
can one get involved?
Keisha Delisser – Cole
All who are interested
in the arts and have ability that they can showcase are invited to become a
part of the following. BattleART is a new sport, so all the creative out
there need to build their skills. BattleART supports the Arts, the need for
improvement in the quality of art, and the growth in the appreciation of the arts
in the Jamaican culture.

When is
the next battle?
Keisha Delisser – Cole
The support has been
great from the artist who we have been in contact with so far. Many are looking
for and outlet and a chance to show their skills and many of our contestants were
young and vibrant.
