How to Create A Textured Bun on Medium Length Hair

I've been really into buns these days. They are sophisticated and easy as ABC. They can be done on messy or straightened hair and both ways give you a refined appearance. See the video below of  how I stumbled onto my textured bun technique.

You can see some of the heat damage in my hair in the picture below even though my hair was blow-dried about 3 days before this picture was taken.

My Textured Bun on Medium-length Natural Hair

Here are a few easy steps to creating this bun.

Step 1
Start with stretched hair or a twist-out or braid-out.

Step 2

Separate hair with fingers to detangle large bumps and knots.

Step 3
Pull hair into a ponytail using your hand only to smooth

Step 4
Loosely roll hair under creating a bun-like shape. Add pins where needed to secure the bun and you're done.

Remember - Avoid using a comb or brush as much as possible. The size of your bun will vary depending on the length of your hair.

  1. I still haven't mastered the natural bun!! I rarely wear my hair out, but when I do, I would love to try bunning. But, it always looks a hot mess! :(

Thanks for the tips. Will try again soon!
